New Bike Day Cometh...

Frames are coming back from powdercoat throughout the rest of the week, so those of you itching for your mid-summer orders will be getting some UPS tracking numbers this week.

In one of the batches should be some hot shiz for fellow Brooklynite , Jeramiah Jones, who can retire his well-used OG Gangsta Track for one of a very limited run of frames we have in develpment.
Keep an eye out on Jeramiah (and his HOLDFAST straps) for what we'll be coming up with, check back here if we give it the greenlight for production.

Above the ear-piercing shriek of the CNC churning out metal shavings last week you could hear another, even more ear-piercing sound: the sound of 35 curious day-camping kids let loose in the shop.

Upstate NYers Geoff Ulmer and his dad have been a really busy duo all season with Geoff racing and his pops doing his best to schedule his son's busy racing schedule. And all that hard work paid off;
At the moment Geoff is the top Jr. Pro downhiller in the country and has just been selected by the USAC to represent the US for the next Downhill Word Championship in Canberra, Australia!

While it's a great achievement to represent America in the fiercest mountainbike races in the world, traveling to Australia isn't free, so we're asking that you dig a little deeper during these times and send a some scratch to the Ulmers so Geoff and Team America won't miss their chance.

Concrete Jungles.

Manhattan is getting new park at Pier 62. Check it.

It's the biggest concrete park in NYC so far, adding to a growing list of public NYC parks, including the latest right up the street from the shop.

Summer temps have finally dropped here in Brooklyn, and while we're not ones to complain about the heat, it would be nice to have trails like these to look forward to at the end of a sweaty day in the shop.

Toku in Tokyo.

The Wbase crew has been going hard in Japan, and pointed us to Tokyo local Toku who has been blowing up the Japanese scene on his Gangsta Track. We were impressed, and sent him a 40cm to represent! We hope to work with him closely for everything new rolling out of Brooklyn Machine Works in the next few months.

Taste of America.

Happy 4th of July, a day of celebration that makes every American's chest swell with pride.

This weekend the boss is upstate with the Family leaving the rest of us to play in Brooklyn.
For this independence day, we'll show you a take on the classic drunken melon, done BMW style.

First, get the biggest watermelon you can fit into a cooler or fridge, and cut off the top to expose the fleshy goodness within:
The next step is to make room for booze by coring the center of the melon. There are a few different ways to do this, but poking around the shop we found that our seatpost makes a slammin' melon corer:

Maximum insertion.

Once the post bottoms out on the rind at the bottom of the melon, cover the vent hole at the top of the post, give it a good yank, and Viola! 29.8mm of melony goodness now stands before you. Take a long knife and make vertical slits all along the glory hole as to maximize surface area and increase the rate of juice/alcohol transfer:
Flip the melon upside down for 30 minutes or so to let any excess juices flow out of the melon, then pack it upright in ice.

Next is the most important part- pick the appropriate liquor for the job. For optimal independence day celebrations get your hands on the highest proof party water you can get your hands on. You can't find everclear in NYC, but our local store had this lovely summer varietal known for it's clarity, bouquet, and disinfectant qualities:

Fill the melon to the top, then squeeze the sides a bit to let the booze flow between the slices in the melon. Cover it in the cooler, go ride bikes (we laced some wheels), give it at least 6 hours or so, then choose one of the 30,000 BKLYN rooftop parties with some patriotic honies, watch some fireworks, and sing songs of celebration. Hot damn we love this country!
